scribing jigg
Here’s my new jigg to scribe the 2 parallel lines on the edge of the blade . It’s simply made of 5 pieces : a piece of wood , a brass cilinder with inner thread and matching bolt , 1 hardened point , 2 drill bits . By loosening the bolt you can adjust the height of the scribed line on the steel . By turning the blade on the table you can scribe a second parellel line max 0.5 mm close to the first .
Simply drill a 10 mm dia hole in the wood to chamber the brass cilinder and drill a 3.2mm dia hole in the cilinder to catch that hardened point . By adjusting the bolt at the opposite site of the cilinder you can fix or loosen the scribing point from the wooden edge and move all parts to the desired position .
What do you need ?
- Of course a hardened point , mine came from a scribing pen . I pulled it out with a wrench and the scribing pen fixed in a vise .
- A piece of wood or steel as base with a flat surface .
- Drill bits about 10mm & 3.2mm
- 1 bolt of same thread as the threated cilinder ( here M10)
- 1 threated cilinder (here also M10)
- Your drillpress of course !
What could also be modified ?
I will also add a steel washer between the wood and scribing point to avoid deformation of the wood while tightening the bolt . Also a screw for fine adjustment should be welcome . However this jigg is a test and in the future I will improve it.
