Custom bladeworks is about my search to the ultimate blade . It’s my hobby to work beautiful hi-tech materials into a useful piece of art Knifemaking is art , a manner to express my fantasy  and explore new techniques . By this blog I wish to propose my handbuilt knives in order to obtain the maximum feedback and improve my work . My knives are ment to be pure functional and non-aggresive .

Why making knives ?

A knife is one of the oldest and most used tools in history , it’s been used in many ways and for many reasons but I am defending the social-friendly and practical character of knives . In my opinion a knife is a useful tool , sometimes a gadget and certainly a item to collect .

Any progres in knifemaking results in better finish and finally a typical look will follow . A knife reflects the personality of the maker .

A knife is also a survival tool , an object that helps to be prepared for difficult circumstances . For me tactical knives presents the most advantages in daily life . For me tactical is the synonym for lightweight , safety , ergonomics , durability and comfort during carry and usage .

To enhance this tactical appearrance I always try to design my folders with a pocketclip , thumbstuds , flipper and fingerguard . They are also fully detachable .

How did I start knifemaking ?

I always had a love for folding knives , pocket tools , keychain knives and survival tools . A few years ago I had the intention to modify a factory blade because I couldn’t find that ideal knife . After some errors in redesigning this factory blade I came to the idea to start from nihil . My first goal was to design a small multi tool but the lack of typical knifemaking materials and tools forced my start with folding knives . Now I have already finished a dozen knives and I am still working on that multitool concept .

About me ?

I am interested in knives since …I can’t remember … very young age . For me knives are the most valuable tools and I won’t dare nature without it .

I am Filip De Coene , live in Belgium and making knives since 1999 . I am 40 and hope to become a well known knifemaker in the industry . Most of my finished knives are presented at local knife shows . I am also interested in survival ,outdoor activities like hiking,trekking and mountaineering .
